چکیده

An increasing number of public WLAN hotspots are being deployed in locations such as hotels, airports, and cafes around the world. Also mobile operators have found public WLAN services to be complementary to their other service offerings, providing a possible source of new revenues. The emergence of WLAN-enabled handsets will further increase the demand for these services. Mobile operators are in a good position in the public WLAN market. They have a large customer base and existing systems for authentication, billing, and roaming. Reusing the existing systems and subscriber relationships requires interworking between the WLAN and cellular systems. This paper gives an overview of the technical WLAN interworking architecture that is currently being developed in 3GPP.

An Analysis of Prioritized Hybrid Interworking Requirements in Next-Generation Wireless Networks

The growing demands for ubiquitous high-speed data services require hybrid interworking in NextGeneration (NG) wireless networks. Handover management is important in providing seamless roaming when User Equipments (UE) are moving across boundaries of radio coverage areas provided by different networking technologies. Handover mechanisms have been well studied in homogeneous circuit-switched net...

Hiperlan/2 Public Access Interworking with 3G Cellular Systems

This paper discusses some of the recent work within the Broadband Radio Access Network (BRAN) project of ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), regarding the issue of establishing an interworking solution between HiperLAN/2 and 3 Generation (3G) cellular systems and introduces the concept of HiperLAN/2 Public Access. So far the BRAN project has identified several fundamentally ...

LTE and LTE-A Interworking and Interoperability with 3GPP and non-3GPP Wireless Networks

This paper provides a high-level overview of E-UTRAN interworking and interoperability with existing Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and non-3GPP wireless networks. E-UTRAN access networks (LTE and LTE-A) are currently the latest technologies for 3GPP evolution specified in Release 8, 9 and beyond. These technologies promise higher throughputs and lower latency while also reducing t...
